Dr. Kevin Y. Chao, MD, is a cosmetic surgery fellow at 5C in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He is double board-certified and fellowship-trained in Mohs Skin Cancer and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Chao earned his degree from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine on a full-ride merit-based scholarship. He completed residency training at the University of California San Diego, followed by a rigorous ACGME- and ACMS-accredited Mohs surgery fellowship with training in plastic and oculoplastic reconstructive surgery.
With his background of facial reconstructive surgery and cosmetics, Dr. Chao has a mastery of precise tissue handling, an intimate understanding of facial anatomy, meticulous wound closure, and an aesthetic eye for symmetry and proportionality. This attention to detail and deep respect for the face as both a functional and aesthetic structure is what drew Dr. Chao toward cosmetic surgical rejuvenation. Dr. Chao has published and presented his research in multiple journals and national conferences and is an invited speaker on skin cancer, reconstructive surgery, and cosmetic surgery topics.
At 5C, that combination (surgical craft, research discipline, and unhurried attention) goes toward results that are refined, natural, and unmistakably the patient's own. Outside of the operating room, Dr. Chao enjoys mentoring the next generation of medical students, reading, art, cycling, and cars.
